Out of all of Ragnar ’s sons on the hit showVikings , his eldest Bjorn stands above the rest . Bjorn has the persistence and strength that few men have . He is the most like his father , in both effective and forged ways . An good warrior who strike fear in his enemies while inspiring his ally to be brave in the face of death .
Though no one doubt his warrior prowess , Bjorn , like his founding father before him , is known to be his own worst enemy . Bjorn ’s womanizing and want of faithfulness to those who bear his children has brought the ire of Ragnar , disgust by his oldest son ’s ways and fearful that he is making the same mistakes .
update Dec 18th by Rose Graceling - Moore : With the Vikings prequel serial publication , Vikings : Valhalla , on the room , fans ca n’t await to return to this humans . And while Bjorn and other conversant faces from the original show will not be appearing , as they take seat generation aside , it may be interesting to see if his descendants are anything like Bjorn himself .
Put His Own Desires First
After Ragnar ’s disappearance , Bjorn is the instinctive successor for King of Kattegat - and had the electric potential to be a smashing power , too . He has the obedience of the people , the bloodline , the call , the experience in battle , and an savvy of diplomatic negotiations . However , Bjorn did n’t want to be King , he wanted to be an adventurer .
And , selfishly , Bjorn refuse to take the throne , finding way to quest after his own dreaming , even though it led to chaos in Kattegat many fourth dimension . His desire to put himself and his desire to research ahead of the welfare of his people was a in particular unblushing move .
Gave Up On Thorunn After She Was Scarred
Bjorn met his first wife , Thorunn , an enslaved woman , while at a banquet in his father ’s laurels . He was instantly smitten with her and even sought to break tradition by free her and fix her his married woman . Shortly afterward , the two fought side by side in England , where it was announce she was pregnant .
Thorunn , a warrior in her own rightfield , seemed to be the perfect match for Bjorn , however , when she was severely scarred in conflict , she clamber to make do - and although Bjorn did try and help her for a while , he ended up giving up on her … and she ended up leaving town .
Slept With A Married Torvi
No one would dissent that Erlendur was a risky husband to Torvi . However , Bjorn ’s decisions to be with Torvi while she was still get married , and in an opprobrious relationship , was a selfish one . Bjorn even knew the danger he was putting Torvi in after Erlendur found out about the family relationship , yet , he continued to see her .
Once Torvi got enough boldness to pull up stakes Erlendur , she was forced to allow for her child behind as penalisation for choosing Bjorn . This affair even angered Ragnar , as he chastised his Word for interfere in her marriage . Of course , this was Torvi ’s choice too , but Bjorn must transport his portion of responsibility for it .
Changing His Mind About Ruling
Although in his spring chicken , Bjorn refused to take on the throne and the upkeep of Kattegat , when the throne in head became for all Norway , Bjorn change his tune . He then push severely to become the first King of All Norway , which could be perceived as a shameless about - face when offered more power .
However , this could also be see as the growth and adulthood of the character - that after his explorations , and after seeing how necessary a capable and openhearted ruler is , Bjorn eventually realized that he had to take up his father ’s drapery .
Unaffected By His Daughter’s Death
After returning from Paris , Lagertha brings Bjorn ’s daughter , Siggy , to greet him . Sadly , he seemed apathetic towards her front . This behavior caught the attention of Ragnar , who scolded his son for caring so little about his frame and stemma .
Even after being ridiculed by Ragnar for his selfish demeanor , Bjorn did not attempt to convert . After leaving his girl in the care of Aslaug , he return from the war to find that she had cryptically died . Unsurprisingly , he still show no compassionateness for her , brush her destruction off just as easily as Aslaug did .
Takes A Second Wife When Gunnhilde Is Pregnant
Bjorn has always shin with conception of fidelity , even for a Viking , in a world where monogamy was n’t the required societal norm . Yet , even after see that his current wife , Gunnhild , is meaning with his tike , Bjorn still takes a second married woman in Ingrid .
Bjorn even goes so far as to leave his fraught wife in seam , who knows that her husband destine to catch some Z’s with another woman . Though , he does show at least a small predisposition to the state of affairs when Gunnhild offers to permit Bjorn to marry Ingrid , causing him to call back how such a choice ended the marriage between his parents .
Abandons Torvi For Another Woman
While Bjorn can be shout out shameless for his treatment of many women throughout the serial publication , the conclusion of his marriageto the shell - maiden Torviis one of his defective moments . After year together , and two children , Bjorn just seems to mislay interest in Torvi , and start ignoring her whole . He basically abandons her , and then shows obvious interest in another adult female in front of everyone .
It takes Torvi to take it up for him to admit that he is finished with her , and while she shows incredible strength in telling him that he has her blessing to move on , it ’s a heartbreaking scene for her . At least Bjorn does , in the end , tell her that he recognizes how badly he plow her .
Responsible For His Mother & Son’s Death
After ultimately taking back Kattegat from Ivar , Bjorn is given the rubric King of Kattegat . While Bjorn is a gravid warrior , even comparable to the great Ragnar Lothbrok , his short time as a Martin Luther King examine to be calamitous .

Yet , this did n’t seem to bother Bjorn in the least . In fact , he seemed pretty proud of himself when his female parent found out , as he intentionally wanted to suffer her . However , to Bjorn ’s disappointment , Lagertha was unfazed by this revelation .
Rude To Alfred While Hiding In England
After Ubbe , Bjorn , Lagertha , and Torvi take flight to England as Ivar claims Kattegat - and they find prophylactic at the royal court of King Alfred . Impressively , contribute the history between them , Alfred permit them to outride and gives them safety - although he does push for transition ( which Ubbe and Torvi accord to ) , and ask for their help in struggle other Vikings .
However , Bjorn ’s mental attitude to the King is appalling - he is being offered shelter , having been plow out of his own nursing home , and yet treats Alfred like an annoyance , and with absolutely no gratitude at all .
