Guy Pearce and Felicity Jones are reuniting inThe Brutalist . Prior to starring inBrady Corbet ’s epic diachronic drama , Pearce and Jones pinch the bill inBreathe In(2013 ) . In the time since they last worked together , the two have put year on their respective careers , with Pearce adding title likeIron Man 3andMary Queen of Scotsto his filmography , while Jones put in career performances inThe possibility of EverythingandRogue One : A Star Wars Story .

After class of searching for unchanging work , László encounters Harrison Lee Van Buren ( Pearce ) , a wealthy industrialist who give László a long - term labor that will keep him work for years .
The Brutalist is a stupendous accomplishment , balancing amour and ordered series at every level of trade . At 3 hours , 35 minutes , every second is well expend .
Ahead ofThe Brutalist ’s theatrical release on December 20,ScreenRantspoke with Pearce and Jones to discuss the meaning behind the pic ’s fatherly themes , reveal how the third routine ’s one - shot was take , and look back on their time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Star Wars galaxy in the form ofIron gentleman 3andRogue One , severally .
Guy Pearce’s Harrison Has a “Complex” Father-Son Relationship
“I think the son feels the pressure to help his father uphold that…”
ScreenRant : Harrison has a fate of defect , you could say , as a father , yet his Word , Harry , seems to emulate his behaviors and also start to kind of take him on physically as the movie progresses , evident by his mustache . Why do you consider that is ? Do you retrieve he get a line through these flaws or do you retrieve he has those rose - tinge glasses because he ’s interacting with his forefather ?
Guy Pearce : It ’s a good question . I suppose it ’s complex . I imagine he looks up to his father on some sort of heroic level . I think there ’s probably some subconscious acknowledgment from Joe ’s point of purview , from the son ’s point of view , that the Church Father demand to be picture in a picky light , and wants to be seen in that particular lighter . I think the son feels the press to help his father uphold that in a way . So I would suggest that the boy is finger pretty torn , but make out his father , but I cogitate is a very complex family relationship , peculiarly because Van Buren is someone who tries to exude such tycoon that , often I think , with people like that , the mass around them feel that they need to sort of be a just audience to them .
The Brutalist’s One-Shot Was The First Take
“The stakes were so high…”
Erzsébet has this monumental vista where she has a openhanded confrontation , if you will , and it ’s a one - shot if I ’m not misguided . I would love to just get your remembering of that day on set , what it was like to germinate that scene , and if it took many take or if you just did that all in one go .
Felicity Jones : No , I seem to remember , unless I ’m remember it with really rise up - tinct chalk , that it was the first taping that we did and that was the tape that is in the film . And as you say , the interest were so eminent because the stroke starts with my character entering , and then we have the opposition , and then it goes on to when Joe ’s character runs up the step . So it was kind of , ' No pressure level , guy wire . You ’ve got to nail this in one . '
Guy Pearce : That ’s right . It was a prospicient barb . We did a few takes . I think we probably did about five take , but maybe it is the first one [ that was used ] .
Architect László Toth and his wife Erzsébet flee Europe in 1947, seeking a fresh start in America. Their fate shifts after meeting a wealthy, enigmatic client.
Felicity Jones : It was the one because it was the one when the shoe come off , which we could never have design . That was just movie magic really , that she in that moment is reduced . She ’s had this moment of heroism and face-off and rebelliousness , and then even within that moment she gets reduced to being shoeless an animal fundamentally .
Guy , to amount back to you for that panorama in particular . Your character variety of resort hotel back to the construction that was being build by László and we do n’t really know what goes on from there . Why do you believe he makes a determination like that , to go to that place ?
Guy Pearce : I think he is someone who is , I think , forever faced with the reality of the world but is trying to force that out . And I think this particular opposition that appears when Felicity comes to me to face up me is just too much to wear . There ’s no turning back now . Something has been queer and it ’s not something I can just [ move by ] . We do n’t really know where Van Buren go , and I hump the fact that it is kind of mysterious , but I remember that he has to take himself off to really calculate out what next because this is not something he can just paint over .
Felicity Jones : Everything ’s falling aside at that second .
Felicity Jones Entertains Star Wars Return
“We’ll never say goodbye to her…”
happiness , I ’d be neglectful if I did n’t require you about Star Wars . I absolutely bed your work inRogue One . That corner of the galaxy was revisited in Andor … Do you think we ’ve to the full said goodbye to Jyn Erso ?
Felicity Jones : We ’ll never say goodbye to her . She will live on , she ’ll experience on . I mean , never say never . She ’s a pretty badass character . She could come back as a hologram or something , which is wholly possible in the Star Wars universe .
Guy Pearce Declares Iron Man 3 is A Christmas Movie
Pearce Starred As Tony Stark’s Antagonist In The 2013 Film
Guy , it ’s Christmas time of year . Would you fit thatIron Man 3is a Christmas picture ?
Guy Pearce : Yeah , I could see that ( laughs ) . dead .
Felicity Jones : Any movie with Guy in it is a Christmas movie .
Guy Pearce : Yeah . LA Confidential is set up around Christmas-
Felicity Jones : The top 10 Christmas movies : Memento-
Guy Pearce : ( joke ) We should do that .
