During a recent interview onThe DocFix Documentary Storytelling Podcast(viaActioNewz ) , Mathieson criticizes Scott ’s film cognitive operation onGladiator 2as " really lazy . " consort to the DP , Scott , unlike with many of his earlier motion-picture show , prefers to now use multiple cameras to captivate scenes . Mathieson , however , " can only perch from one angle , " think the filming suffers . Scott ’s trust on multiple cameras , the DP claims , is out of a desire to move apace :
" He is quite raring so he likes to get as much as he can at once . It ’s not very good for filming .
" It ’s the CG [ computer computer graphic ] component now of tidying - up , leave things in scene , camera in shot , mike in shot , bits of lot flow down , shadows from booms . And they just say [ on Gladiator II ] , ' Well , clean house it up . ' "
" Look at his sometime films and gravel depth into thing was very much part of lighting . You ca n’t do that with a lot of cameras but he just wants to get it all done . Having lots of camera I do n’t think has made the film any better … It ’s a bit rush , kick , bang . That ’s changed in him .
But that ’s the path he wants to do it and I do n’t like it and I do n’t think many people do , but citizenry love his films and he ’s Ridley Scott and can do what he wants . mass want to shoot multi television camera because they get lots of performances and they put lots of people in . But there ’s not the care .
Now it is this matter of ‘ generally cover stuff ’ rather than me being the cook cook you something marvellous in my kitchen downstairs . You just go to the supermarket and get one of those really big trolleys and you just put your subdivision on the ledge and just chuck all that poppycock in and we ’ll screen it out later . "
