If there is one idea that can be acquire away from the second time of year ofMarco Polo , it is simply that the monetary value of keeping or gaining more top executive will end up cost you more than you ’re uncoerced to bargain with . The swell Kublai Khan may have ended up losing everything as a mystic unexampled foe hybrid into the kingdom of the Mongol Empire .
Throughout this season , many of the leaders in this imperium have been focused on attempt to do what is right and honest , while also having to make rugged conclusion for the improvement of their families . Kublai go as far to inform his married woman ( Empress Chabi ) that she does n’t have the belly to make hard choices , which we soon get a line is a simulated statement - when she force a stable - male child to dishonor Princess Kokachin . While Kublai and his wife make peace in the end , the cost is too great .
The result of the Empress ' programme to procure her family unit ’s rule for the next several coevals comes at toll of pitiable Kokachin ’s saneness , who resolve that kill herself is more preferable to last a life full of guilt trip . Some mass just are n’t cut out for this unpitying game of power and seduction . How Marco and Prince Jingim will deal with the news show of her destruction will be interesting to see if we are given a third season . Zhu Zhu ’s portrayal of the false princess was a joy to watch as she stepped up her represent game this time of year with her slow descent into insaneness .
Another conversant theme this season was family , especially when speaking of Kublai ’s bastard boy Ahmed . Mahesh Jadu give way a riveting performance , even if his story cease too soon . In episode 5 , titled ' Lullaby ' , we learn the scandalous Sojourner Truth about Ahmed ’s past . As a young revenue enhancement collector , he seemed happy and content with understanding the people of Kublai ’s realm until one horrific case at a local bordello changed his life forever and a day . Having believed his mother died at the hand of the Khan ’s man when he was a boy , Ahmed never thought for a second that she would be working as a prostitute , who he would then have sexual activity with . Both the act and his reaction after the fact was intemperate to watch , but one can interpret his desire for revenge on the man responsible for .
The issue with this scenario is not Ahmed ’s rationality for his perfidy , but the fact that they were never fully realized . Now , Ahmed had no chance of win , but the season lacked that moment when Ahmed could have told Kublai why he was so angry . Perhaps it ’s overused , but there needed to be that second when Ahmed and Kublai stood face - to - face . The Khan could then agnise why one of his beloved sons could hate him so . For plot of ground purposes , Kublai needed to be at the Kurultai , but a nefarious monologue between the two would have been nice before Ahmed ’s death . Either way , Mahesh Jadu , like Zhu Zhu , will be missed .
Marco , Jingim and Byamba all stayed unfeigned to the Khan in the end , even though Marco let his father live after the conflict against the Crusader . It was a bold move , even after Empress Chabi gave him license to return to Italy . Byamba may be this commentator ’s favorite Logos of the Khan . His relationship with Khutulun was one of the more dynamic partnerships of the serial , as the warrior had to decide if he could ever be hubby to a distaff Khan . Khutulun saw a direction to save her house and mayhap retain tycoon , but she also proved her wisdom in seeing that all this betrayal and backstabbing will eventually be the undoing of the Mongol Empire .
Even 100 Eyes had a courteous arc this season , as he is reunify with his farsighted lost love , Lotus . It was a joy to see Michelle Yeoh on the small screen , and her fights with 100 heart were some of the best choreographed sequences this season . In the remnant , she is now watching over Mei Lin ’s daughter - but with 100 center in following , this surely wo n’t be the last meter we see them together .
Looking ahead to what we all hope is a third time of year , this new foe , this Prester John should make for an enticing history going forward . History tells us that Prester John is more a of caption than an existent person , but there are accounts of him all over Asia . Some title he could be found in India , Ehtiopia and even Central Asia where he had a vast kingdom .
His story has led treasure hunter and explorer alike to discover the riches of his supposed kingdom . If the legend are true , Prester John will be a worthy foe for Kublai . Hopefully we will be able-bodied to see this great gentleman become a reality before our eyes whenMarco Polois given a much deserved third outing .
