Kerry Washington : This mad thing bump . I fuck off this e-mail from Tyler Perry where he was like , " I have this sizzle reel I desire you to watch for a task that we should work on , " and I was like , " Great . I have this half-baked weekend . I have multiple photo shoot , but I ’ll take a feeling at it on Monday . "
That weekend we did a pic shoot for a series I was doing on Instagram call Black Herstory , and I trim up as Lena Derriecott King , and it was so exciting for me . I did n’t even sleep together [ about them ] ; my societal media director contribute me this story about these cleaning woman . I ’d never take heed of them , and I was blown away . I was like , " We have to do this . " I have intercourse getting dressed up in the press , so I was like , " Would n’t it be cool to do a motion picture about these women ? " But it was like a indirect request upon a whizz . It was n’t an actual thing in my nous .
A pair of day later , I start the sizzle reel , and it was them . It ’s the story of these women . It was mind - blowing . I could n’t believe it . I got on the phone with Tyler , and he tell , " I want you to act their Captain , Charity Adams , " and it was full - consistency chills . I was like , " I ’m in . I do n’t know how in the world you ’re conk to make an interesting captivating motion picture about the mail service , but I ’m in . I ’m down for you . permit ’s go . "
ScreenRant : Yeah , they made a motion picture about the mail , and I started crying at the last of it . That was so serendipitous .
Kerry Washington : There were a lot of those moments on set . I really find like you could call it serendipity . I kind of call it God .
Learning Leadership From The Six Triple Eight’s Major Charity Adams
“She expected the best and the most of these women, but she also did it with a very open heart.”
ScreenRant : You play Major Charity Adams . What did you read from her leadership way , specially her ability to sustain morale among her troop ?
Kerry Washington : It ’s funny . I felt up like she started helping me to be her the minute I got on set because , as an executive producer , I felt like it was kind of part of my responsibleness to check that that the girls all got along . So that we could operate as a flock , that we trusted each other , that we like each other , and that we felt secure to take big originative swings and to have big emotional instant with each other .
Her leadership style is so inspiring to me because I think she really find that beautiful counterbalance , and she spill the beans about it in her memoir ; that balance of being both fierce and totally in command , but also remain compassionate . She expected the good and the most of these women , but she also did it with a very open heart and a gamey level of maternal inherent aptitude , even though she was n’t yet a mom . So , I really admire her leaders style , and I attempt to carry it with me in my life now because I think she really is one of our greatest sub .
ScreenRant : You mentioned feel that you were surrounded by the holy person of the Six Triple Eight . Can you talk about a moment during filming where you felt that profound connexion with these historical figures ?
Kerry Washington : Yeah , there was a minute when I was sitting in my fecundation way with Tyler Perry . We were practise one of her many monologues and tweaking the language and blend in through it , and we got a knock on the door , and it was a guy cable from exile . He came in with a tree trunk that said Charity Adams on the side , and it was her actual trunk .
indoors were wardrobe items ; there were twigs and seeds from her triumph garden that she had planted in Europe , which I had just read about in her memoir . I intend , it was extraordinary . It felt like her Energy Department ; her gist was living in that cloth .

“We are so excited to get to share this film with the world.”
ScreenRant : How has it been working with another creative star , Rian Johnson , on the extremely - anticipatedWake Up Dead Man : A Knives Out Mystery ?
Kerry Washington : Oh , my gosh . It ’s so exciting . I got to see Rian when he came to the swelled party that I had for my star on the Walk of Fame , and I missed him . I was so happy to see him . We wrapped a few months ago ; we were filming this Summer . It was so great to see him and to talk to him about how redaction is going . Making that cinema was such a joy .
evidently , I ca n’t assure you a single thing about the movie other than Daniel Craig is in it , but it ’s fantastic . It was so fun to solve with this cast . We adore each other . We are so excited to get to partake this cinema with the world , and I experience so lucky that I get to be a part of that tout ensemble .
