Huludips its toe into the true crime crazy withCandy , a miniseries consequence which premier yesterday . The 5 - part show is set to air one episode a day on the streaming serve , all the way of life through to Friday the 13th for its competently chilling conclusion . Set in 1980 , the taradiddle follows housewife and mother Candy Montgomery ( Jessica Biel , The Sinner ) and the shocking murder she get away with .
Biel , who also executive produced the series , plays Candy as a woman who seemingly has everything she could ever need : bonk hubby , double-dyed kids , and a nice suburban rest home . But when she becomes friends with fellow church member Betty Gore ( Melanie Lynskey , Yellowjackets ) and her husband ( Pablo Schreiber , Halo ) , things take a very ugly go . Timothy Simons and Raul Esparza round off out the main mould as the story unfolds .

Screen Rantspoke to Biel and Lynskey about which 1980s turnout were their favorites , what drew them to the account ofCandy , and which classic franchises are must - determine fabric for their kids .
Screen Rant : Before we plunge into the slaying , let ’s talk about the looks . I was just talk to Timothy and Pablo , and Timothy was recount me he kept one of his blue jumpsuits . What was your favourite thing about each of your look ? And did you ever take them out for a spin on the town , just to be a trivial disguise for the nighttime ?
Jessica Biel : I loved my tone . It was so different for me ; I ’ve never had hair like that before , or really had the opportunity to dress in those unbelievable costumes . I make out all of her pantsuits ; it was very kind of 80s smart or something . I do n’t know - it was fun .
I did n’t feel like myself at all , and that was the whole idea .
Melanie Lynskey : I sleep together the flavour that Betty had at the baby shower , which was this lovely yellow dress . It was say to be a import where she depend glowing and beaming and glad , so I think deliberately [ with ] the relaxation of the looks , I was not looking as radiant or happy . [ Laughs ] I really clung to that baby exhibitor dress . I was like , " There ’s one that ’s pretty ! "
But I do think that Robert Blackman , our costume designer , was first of all a gentleman’s gentleman and a sweet humanity and also a genius . He did a beautiful job .
Jessica , as an executive manufacturer , what grabbed you most about this story ?
Jessica Biel : Of course , the ending is just incessantly fascinating , right ? How did she get acquitted is just still in my brain . I mean , really , it ’s the telling of it ; the way that the hand were subtly and slowly shew you these mundane lives and these suburban existences . It was just a very different tone , and something that I did n’t expect .
The story is itself explosive and all of these thing , but the way Robin and Nick and our marvelous directors wanted to tell the story - that was really the deception of this particular project .
I have it away this moment where they take the kids to seeEmpire Strikes Back , and they ’re have this whole conversation about it . What is the turn one moving picture or dealership that you need to check that the kids see ? You ’re like , " I ’ve stick ta ensure they ’re uncover to this . "
Melanie Lynskey : I did n’t see a lot of picture as a child . I was n’t really take to them - sound a fleck tragic . So , I do n’t have sex about childhood nostalgia . I started watching movies by myself at night , but I would watch The exorciser and stuff and nonsense like that . I do n’t desire my daughter to have that experience .
But my husband had a very healthy , normal puerility where he fix to go the movies , so I ’m sure he has a whole list . He knows all these , like The Little Mermaid . I ’m like , " I do n’t know what that is . " Yeah , I ’ve never seen it .
Jessica Biel : There ’s a luck of films that I grew up with that I know and would want my kids to see . goonie , I intend , would be one that I hump so much . And at some point , not anytime before long , Dirty Dancing- I ’m a big fan .
In terms of big epics , of course Star Wars . That ’s apparently something you ’d want your kids to see . My tike has seen ET ; I call back that ’s a grade . He likes watching it . He also loves*Batteries Not Included . I have sex that picture , but it ’s about older people and automaton and slight space noncitizen . I intend , I get it , but it still surprises me every fourth dimension that he loves that movie .
