The Mandalorian
About a year and a one-half afterThe Mandalorianseason 3 completed its run , I ’ve found that my position on the previous - and most controversial - instalment of the highly successfulStar Warsshow has changed over time . The Mandalorianwas , and still is , utterly invincible in price of its first two season , both of which whole revolutionize the wayStar Warsand even many other dealership would go about their live - action TV appearance . For many , however , time of year 3 conk out to take on that same measure , though that for certain was n’t the case for everyone .
As one ofThe Mandalorian ’s biggest fan , having follow the show ever since its premiere in 2019 , I was ab initio one of the viewers who was avidly defending season 3 as it was released . This continued for calendar month after it had already wrapped up , and I often find oneself myself winding up at the kernel of some heated debates about whether season 3 was truly a collision forThe Mandalorianor not . Over time , however , I ’ve fully issue forth to terms with my own feelings about this past season , and my perspective has almost completely changed .

As A Mandalorian Fan, I Hold High Standards For The Show
It Set The Bar High With Seasons 1 & 2
Even beforeThe Mandalorianseason 3 issue forth out , I had high standards for the TV show ’s third installment , mostly because of how incredible season 1 and 2 are . This show truly set a very high bar for itself with those first two season , and in the long postponement between seasons 2 and 3 ( well over 2 years),my standards for what was to come only grow more and more . Of course , before we even catch season 3 , we gotDin DjarinandGrogu ’s tale law of continuation inThe Book of Boba Fett , which is where problem started for many witness - and for me .

I had n’t realize that at the fourth dimension , either , but the way those second inThe Book of Boba Fettadvanced the account ofThe Mandalorianreally put time of year 3 in a toughened spot already . Much of what happens in that spin - off serial , most notably the reunion between Din Djarin and Grogu , was have a bun in the oven to happen inThe Mandalorianseason 3 , which made it hard to even make true expectations for the boob tube show ’s next installment . Despite this , I still held high standards for what was to come , maintaining religious belief in my favoriteStar Warsproject .
This was n’t about break down to meet expectations ; it was about fail to foregather its own in high spirits standard .
Unfortunately , these standard were not really met in time of year 3 . It ’s assume me a long time to estimate with that , but now , about a year and a half afterwards , I ’m able to recognize that . There were account alternative that still utterly baffle me to this 24-hour interval , and the tale did n’t feel nearly as cohesive and fluid as it did in seasons 1 and 2 - at least , not for me - and I even had a difficult time buying into this season emotionally . This was n’t about go to see arithmetic mean ; it was about failing to match its own high standards .
The Mandalorian Season 3 Let Down Its Titular Character
Din Djarin Lacked A Good Story Of His Own
easy the heavy full stop of contention for me regardingThe Mandalorianseason 3 is that it totally allow down its titular grapheme , Din Djarin , in my oculus . Din Djarin has become my favorite fictitious character of all meter , which means that I am , and always have been , veryinvested in his narrative . In time of year 3 , however , there is n’t really a story for him at all . rather , Din lives in the shadows ofBo - Katan Kryzeand his own boy Grogu in season 3 , losing lineament discharge progress from time of year 2 in the unconscious process .
The Mandalorian ’s Din Djarin has quickly become one of Star Wars ' best character , but even his story has n’t forefend embracing some straight nonsense .
Again , this is n’t aboutThe Mandalorianseason 3 not meet my expectations . I can often deal with that well , and it ’s why I do n’t set up high expectations in the first seat . I even fiddle down my Hope about getting a trueMand’alorDin Djarin prior to time of year 3 , despite many of my fellowThe Mandalorianmega - rooter couch a lot of faith in that happening . What happened with Din Djarin is that the story of season 3 let him down vastly . After getting his repurchase , he simply goes along for the ride , lallygag at Bo - Katan ’s side during her vital arc .
For me , Din Djarin getting his redemption was also a handsome letdown , after time of year 2 seemed to be gear up up at least an exploration into Din ’s religious belief and whether he truly want to continue forward in this specific Mandalorian Way or not .
Perhaps Din was indeed the samara to the Children of the Watch hope Bo - Katan , but that was completed once Din had accomplished that in episode 4 . Afterward , the Armorertook up the role of being the Children of the Watch ’s leader at Bo - Katan ’s side , which left Din with no existent purpose . He does n’t even elect to continue on Mandalore after he and Grogu assistance to liberate the major planet . All the while , Din does n’t take off his helmet whatsoever , not that that ’s needfully call for in his narration . All in all , Din was extremely stable in season 3 .
Season 3 Is A Good Star Wars Story, Not A Good Mandalorian Story
It Couldn’t Afford To Lose Focus On Its Two Main Characters
What I ’ve come to embrace as my true outlook onThe Mandalorianseason 3 is that it ’s a goodStar Warsstory , but not a goodMandalorianstory . There ’s still so much in season 3 that I really do dearest , including the extremely controversial episode " Chapter 22 : gas pedal For Hire " , even if I still have lots of criticisms about other parts of the taradiddle . I will also still stick out by my personal belief thatThe Mandalorianseason 3 is n’t nearly as bad as most other fan say it is , because itisstill good as aStar Warsstory .
The trouble is that it lacked what The Mandalorian time of year 1 and 2 had : a strong , emotional focus on Din Djarin and Grogu .
There are things outside Din Djarin ’s arc and the overall narrative of season 3 that I have grievances with , include what feels like a refreshment of Bo - Katan ’s arc fromStar war Rebelsin hot - action mechanism about 10 class after , butit overall is still an installment of television that I truly did enjoy . It disappointed me , yes , but given how many people still choose this time of year as their favourite , it distinctly accomplished some telling goals . The problem is that it lack whatThe Mandalorianseasons 1 and 2 had : a unassailable , emotional focal point on Din Djarin and Grogu .
It’s Not Too Late For The Mandalorian To Redeem Itself
The Mandalorian And Grogu Movie Can Fix Things
While my position onThe Mandalorianseason 3 may be shift to a more critical lens as of correctly now , it ’s still not too late for thisStar Warssubfranchise to earn redemption . I have a raft of faith inThe Mandalorian and Grogumovie , even if we have so little to go off of at this time . All the motion-picture show has to do is return to the middle ofThe Mandalorianby throw Din Djarin and Grogu an emotionally driven storythat allow them to acquire as reference and as the great unwashed . consecrate the movie ’s title , I have a lot of true trust that this will go on .
The Mandalorian & Grogu is the next Star Wars pic to slay field of operations , the franchise ’s first since 2019 . Here are its integral shape and character so far .
I initially defendedThe Mandalorianseason 3 because I honestly , trulywanted to love it so much . We had been look such a foresighted time for it , and I wanted to be a good sports fan ofThe Mandalorianby proving that I could love it in any and all context . Since then , however , I’ve learned how to balance my genuine , never - cease love for this TV show with the disappointment it ’s brought me as well . It ’s why I can still have religion in the future ofThe Mandalorian , no matter what may be in memory board next for our beloved Cuban sandwich .
