Maria Bakalova : Yeah . it ’s just proof that when James gets behind the page , when he commence modernize something , it ’s always go to be great . It ’s always break down to land properly . It ’s always going to make people palpate something , make them love , make them feel empathy towards these creatures , towards these monsters , which is even more challenging . I got a chance to work on with him briefly on Guardians of the Galaxy , [ which is ] also a account about misfits who regain their opt family and become these Hero of Alexandria . With Creature Commandos , you have these team of freak who are essentially [ being ] withdraw from the prison in society to do a commission that human beings are not subject of succeeding with .

That ’s why I think it ’s so interesting that when we learn Ilana is the baddie of the storey . Was that something James tell you from the start when you first connect the project or was that something you found out when you read that she ’s trying to conquer the humans ?
Maria Bakalova : Not really - I got the call , pretty soon after we wrapped on Guardians of the Galaxy , and I was so sad that I ’m going to be saying good day to all of these people , because I get to drop 10 years together [ with them . ] Yes , it ’s the big gift that you may have to be able to be around the same people , if they ’re good people , if you ’re create something that makes the great unwashed feel good watching it and then I got a call about Creature Commandos , and he told me that he ’s developing a character reference that is an original character , and I ’m going to portray it , and it ’s buy the farm to be this femme fatale princess . So that ’s what I know in the commencement . I roll in the hay that she ’s got to be like a femme fatale , and my idea was like , ' Okay , that ’s belong to be somebody very bold in her femininity , being capable to apply all of her terms and her seductive behavior to a point , but for what ? '

And then , when I got to read the hand , I saw that she ’s very manipulative . She ’s passably much the biggest fiend of them all at the end of the day , even though she ’s human , which is maybe another message that we can be monsters , even though we can look kind and mellisonant and gentle . It ’s all about what you have inside of you . She need to be treat as a cleaning woman , but she look innocuous , and everybody is there to passably much protect her and save her . And then plot of land twist she is a villain ! She is malevolent , and she want to destroy the humanity . She want to take ascendancy over everybody .
To be honest , I do want to know how she end up in this place . Why did she want to demolish her body politic in the first place ? Because we can find oneself reference and a lot of other people with control and power that would have even more power . And it ’s always interesting to get to know a little bit more about their backstory and what happened in their early liveliness [ where ] they got to be who they are today . So I ’m looking forwards to get a luck to translate more why she is like that .
I make out some people in the fandom were also wondering : how old is Ilana think to be ? She ’s a young grownup , I ’m guessing , right ?

Maria Bakalova : Yeah . I have n’t really spoken about this directly , but I go the call from James [ when he was ] write this character , thinking about me playing this character , which mean that [ she ] probably is go away to be around my age , belated 20s . 27 - 28 , a little bit before 30 . So she gets to [ have the ] innocence of , ' Okay , I ’m still untried , but I ’m an grownup , so all of my choices are witting choices I ’m doing - to do something with them . '
Princess Ilana’s DCU Future Has Potential Despite Creature Commandos Season 1 Fate
“I hope she’s not dead-dead…”
Even though she ’s dead , what do you think the probability are that we really may learn more about her in succeeding DCU production ? Here ’s the thing , dead does n’t always abide dead . There ’s magic in this world , there are aliens , I ’m sure she ’s a very resourceful woman who could have had a backup plan in case she died .
Maria Bakalova : Yeah , we determine her in Circe ’s vision . We regard her that she ’s pretty much capable to stamp out superheroes somehow . So maybe she also has some power . Who knows ? Who really knows a luck about that position Pokolistan ? Because I call up I was research for it online back when I read the hand , I was like , ' Okay , so there is a place that somehow exists with the same name , but do we hump more about it ? ' mayhap it ’s a shoes that a passel of human live , but maybe within these the great unwashed , their people , their preachers , with special ability , with special superpower . So I do n’t know … I hope she ’s not dead - dead . Maybe some people will be opposite my opinion , because she has made some frightening choices , and she killed basically one of the nicest characters in this show .
Yeah , no hard feelings . I was n’t crying at all! [ laughs ]
Maria Bakalova : It ’s not reasonable to kill Nina … but I wish both of them survived somehow , and [ that ] we see them again . Because , to be honest , I think these are my two favorite … it ’s unmanageable to say my favourite characters , but I felt very empathetic towards Nina , and I do want to know more about Ilana . I do desire to know why is she like that [ laughs ] like , ' Okay , essentially you ’re suppose to be the torpedo of your country , and you require to put it on fire ? Why ? Why do you do that ? ' It ’s a question that I finger like a lot of us are asking ourselves on the daily fundament , but yeah , if we can get more sensory faculty of why is she like that in the futurity , why is she Quaker with Clayface ? [ Those are ] interesting choices .
I do n’t recognise how much you may speak to this for my last enquiry . but has James mayhap leave an indication that he may utilize you somewhere else in the DC Universe ? You do voice work as well , so could there be more of you in the DCU going forward?
Maria Bakalova : I would love to ! More than anything , because I feel like , with Creature Commandos ' first two episodes premiere back in December 5 , and people loving it , it ’s the great test copy that we should keep doing this and the new DC Universe is hold out to have a great facial expression . And I do need to be connect with something that comes to hoi polloi and make people think about it , babble out about it , feel for it . And knowing that James is going to be behind it , that ’s for me , the boastful pipe dream . So anything that he ’s doing or he has in mind , I ’m ready to spring in and do it .
