Cloak & Dagger
Ahead ofCloak and Daggerseason 2 ’s premiere , Marvel TV brought the cast and bunch to WonderCon 2019 to upgrade the latest season as well as the future of its character on telecasting . Emma Lahana , who plays detective Brigid O’Reilly , bring together the squad and cast some light on her character ’s transmutation into the superpowered being Mayhem . Brigid being reborn as Mayhem was originally teased at the conclusion ofCloak and Daggerseason 1 , and now ahead of the time of year 2 premiere on April 4 , Lahana unwrap - in a roundtable audience with Screen Rant and other electric receptacle - what it was like preparing for the role as well as wager both Brigid and Mayhem .
So what was it like this season with a lot more animalism ?
Yeah , it ’s a lot more . I spent about a month leading up to it cultivate Krav Maga , and that was really acute . I still have an accidental injury I ca n’t seem to get over from that matter . My dead body was doing - because I ’m a ballerina - so my body was like I have to turn my foot in . So , yeah , I did a pot of Krav Maga . I did a plenty of artillery training as well - semi - automatic weapons , which is terrific , and I had a panic onset at a torpedo range and had to leave . But , yeah , it was definitely a lot more … physically . Not just for my character but time of year 2 in general . It ’s like season 1 on steroids .
What can you severalize us about your eccentric in time of year 2 ? Because evidently at the final stage of season 1 she had a big transformation .
Right , so season 2 you kind of determine a Jekkyland Hyde situation going on between Brigid and Mayhem , so Brigid is look at with the wake of what fall out in time of year 1 - heartache and all that clobber - on top of being germinate by Connors . So as a shot dupe she ’s dealing with PTSD . She ’s dealing with it the most effective way … using pills . And there ’s this other side of her she ca n’t really traverse anymore that is essentially kind of fill up with madness , and it ’s kind of a char battling herself , essentially . I know that ’s wispy .
Do you have your powers at all ?
[ Smiles ] … yeah , there are some index in there .
With retaliation being on your character ’s mind , how far do you think she ’ll go in season 2 ?
somewhat dang far . I mean , I do n’t sleep together how much of the trailers you guys have seen , but she definitely … havoc is not somebody that really picture sign of [ an ] antagonistic display . She just kind of go for it . One of her principal powerfulness fundamentally is that she kind of zero Fs . You get it on , nothing really holds her back . Brigid is a lot more in her head ; Mayhem is not at all . She ’s really in a scrap or flight of stairs mode at all times , so she ’s pretty ballsy .
So would you say Mayhem is truly a part of Brigid ? Are we plump to see her adjudicate to bump a balance ?
… I ’m sorry I ’m just essay to figure out how to answer this without spoiling things . Uh … watch out the show and you ’ll ascertain out ? [ Laughs ] I mean , there ’s definitely a battle going on , whether somebody succeed or somebody miss . You ’ll have to kind of scout to find out . I experience that ’s so wispy , it ’s bothersome . I ’m sorry .
I have it off you ca n’t tell us much , but what can you say us about how the character evolves throughout season 2 ?
I imagine by the end of episode 3 you ’ll have a mint of answer to those questions . It ’s a bit of a mindware . You ’re gon na go into season 2 thinking one thing , and we ’re gon na be like , " No , it ’s this thing . " Then mayhap it ’s not in reality either of those things . You ’ll understand at the end of the nighttime - of the premiere - what I ’m talking about .
Does anyone ever refer to her as Mayhem or is that just like the time of year 2 tagline version [ for that character reference ] ?
No , there ’s a reference to that , yeah .
Can you peach a lilliputian bit about your interactions with Tyrone and Tandy a little bit and how that ’s changed between time of year 1 and time of year 2 ?
So season 1 you see that Brigid really has this protective kinship with Ty , and she kind of takes him under his wing and she really require to do right by him and play justice to what happened to him . Obviously , she position her own line of work and life story on the line to try and serve him , and that does n’t needs go very well . So in season 2 , what I was articulate before in dealing with PTSD and she ’s really struggling , you kind of see that relationship sky , and Ty becomes a guardian of Brigid . And then there ’s almost parallels of the Mayhem side and the Tandy side because Tandy is a little bit more scrappy and does n’t necessarily think everything through the mode that Tyrone does . She does n’t see everything in the prominent motion picture , sees things in a more simple way when we ’re talk about an anti - hero vigilance man . So you kind of see the parallels between Tandy and Mayhem and then more parallels between Ty and Brigid .
What are some thing that you as an actress do to differentiate between these two unlike persona ?
Well , I looked into a set of battle or flight and how that changes people ’s physicality . So with Mayhem , there ’s a lot less winkle . Her whole animalism … her shoulder are back , she ’s a lot unattackable , she ’s a lot bigger . Brigid is more protective of herself , so she ’s a lot smaller and a mint more discerning in the way that she moves . And there ’s a difference of opinion in the way that they speak , their part . Like Mayhem is a piddling number gruffer and deeper , and with Brigid , everything is just a little more heedful .
